A welcome for our NEW Year 7s
28/08/2025

Dear Parent/Carer

We hope that you are enjoying a peaceful and enjoyable summer break and are excited about the transition to secondary school. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 pupils on Tuesday 2nd September 2025. Please find below some reminders which may be helpful.

On Tuesday morning pupils should come into school (between 8:35am-8:45am) using the main doors at reception. Here they will be greeted by the Year 7 Team, pastoral staff and our Year 11 Mentors. Please note that parents/carers will not be able to enter the school building.

The day will begin with a short assembly where pupils will once again meet their Year Team and Form Teachers. From here they will spend two periods with their Form Teacher and Year 11 Mentors, getting to know each other and settling into the school. Curriculum lessons will start at 11:30am (Period 3). Pupils should have the relevant equipment as detailed in your Parent Information booklet, which was issued in July at our Intake Evening.

As a reminder, pupils should bring the following with them on day one:

1. School bag

2. Pencil case with basic equipment, as outlined in the Parent Booklet

3. Their ‘Year 7 Welcome Booklet’ that was given out on Taster Day

4. A reading book

5. Bus pass, if required

6. PE Kit will NOT be needed on their first day.

Pupils will be given their timetable on day one. Please check this with your child each evening to ensure they are prepared for the following day.

At break time and lunchtime we operate a cashless payment system using biometrics (as communicated in July). Your child will be set up on the system over the course of the first two days. You will be able to add money to your child’s account using ParentPay. A link will be sent to you within the first couple of days. In the meantime, pupils will be able to buy food and drinks and the amount owed will be added to their account until you have received details of how to pay. Alternatively, pupils are welcome to bring a packed lunch and snacks.

During the first week, Year 7 pupils will finish at 3:10pm to allow them a few minutes to get organised for their buses and / or parental collection, ahead of the rest of the school finishing as normal at 3:15pm. Please note that on Fridays school finishes at 2:15pm. Please ensure that pupils understand how they will travel home after school and have bus passes ready if this is appropriate.

Parents/carers are not allowed to drive in to the school gates to drop off or pick up, to ensure the safety of all our pupils.

To help pupils settle in to St Christopher’s there will be a Team Building day for year 7 at ‘Outdoor Elements’ at the end of September. Further details about this event will be sent out to you in due course.

We hope pupils enjoy the final few days of the summer holidays and we very much look forward to seeing them on Tuesday.

Best wishes,

Mrs L Williamson - Assistant Headteacher and Mrs C Ramsbottom - Head of Year 7
