IKEA ‘Let's Go Zero’ Winners 2023-24
18/03/2024

That's right! St Christopher's CE High School won £2000 from IKEA's 'Let's Go Zero' competition to create a NEW Pre-loved clothes shop.

The project aimed to reduce waste and promote sustainability by encouraging students to donate and exchange their pre-loved school uniforms and prom dresses.

“Pupils were proud to show case all of their environmental changes embedded within our school, through a video, featuring everything from the polytunnel, The Trashion Show, fruit trees and Bikeability which runs annually for Year 8 next month. They responded to both the environmental and financial need for our families, to provide pre-loved uniform all year round.”

Wendy Litherland Director of Sustainability.

The Pre-loved shop will be a valuable resource for students and their families, providing them with a cost-effective way to acquire school uniforms and prom dresses. It will also help to reduce the environmental impact of clothing production and consumption.

The shop has now been completed and the transformation from one of the older classrooms in school to a modern a vibrant, inviting space is immense! It will be run and organised by the school’s PTA ‘The Friend’s of St Christopher’s’ (FoSC). We had a soft opening at the Speech Awards in January when we took the opportunity to show round local MP and ex-pupil Sara Britcliffe, along with the school Governors. We are aiming to have a grand opening to the wider school community soon as part of Prom Dress events.

IKEA's 'Let's Go Zero' competition is a fantastic initiative that is helping to empower schools to make a positive impact on the environment. The company's support for St Christopher's CE High School's project is a testament to its commitment to sustainability and its belief in the power of education to drive change.
