CHARM Talent Show Finals 2024
01/03/2024

In the bustling hall of St Christopher's High School, excitement was in the air as students prepared for the much-anticipated CHARM talent show finals. The stage was set, the lights were dimmed, and the audience buzzed with anticipation, eager to witness the incredible talents of their peers.

Seven acts had made it to the finals, each representing a different facet of artistic expression. There were singers with voices that could move mountains, musical theatre performers who could transport audiences to magical realms, a pianist whose fingers danced effortlessly across the keys, and dancers whose movements spoke volumes without a single word.

The evening began with a warm welcome from Mr Young, who introduced each act throughout the event. As each act performed, the tension in the air grew thicker, with every performer giving their all-in hopes of being crowned the winner of the CHARM talent show.

First up was the Year 7 and 8 Dance Troupe with a routine to Sax by Fleur East, quickly followed by Taylor G performing ‘She used to be mine’ from the musical Waitress. Then we had Jacob M playing two songs on the piano (T-Rex’s Hungry and Railroad Blues by D Blackwell) and to end the first session, Elisha E sang ‘Somewhere only we know’ by Keane.

Mr Young then introduced the interval and hosted the raffle, with some great prizes to be won. It also gave the judges a little time to confer over the first round of the acts. Once the audience had time to grab some snacks and drinks the second round began, with Liberty and Millie performing a dance routine. Then it was the turn of Jasmine R who sang ‘Poor unfortunate souls’ from the Little Mermaid. Our final act of the night was the very popular Jack M who performed a song he had written and composed with his band.

We then had another short interlude for the judges to go backstage and deliberate between themselves. When the judges reappeared, it was left to head judge Mr Gardner to announce the winner. But in the end, it was no surprise to learn that the St Christopher's Year 7 and 8 dance troupe were announced, as they stole the show with their electrifying performance.

Their journey is far from over, for they’ve earned the chance to represent St Christopher's at the grand finals at The Hollins High School later this month. It was a fantastic evening with all the acts leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of witnessing their talent and passion.

Over the last two weeks we have managed to raise over £350 for the YNOT Aspire Charity, who’s work with Young Carers is incredibly commendable. They also organise the entire CHARM Talent Show competition across the borough.

We would like to thank Mr Young for his fantastic hosting skills, all the judges (Mr Gardner, Mrs Lane, Mr Green from FoSC and ex-pupil Jamie B), Mrs Wyld for her continued support, Harry E and the pupil AV Team, all the staff who helped and supported the events and finally a very special thankyou to Miss Blackburn for organising everything.

Now for the grand final!
