Geography Awareness Week 2023
27/11/2023

Over the past 2 weeks, the Geography team have been taking part in 'Geography Awareness Week'. This annual week celebrates the importance of the subject and its impact on our lives. They have had daily competitions for both pupils and staff, as well as special classes taking place with Y7 groups, around the theme of "Power of Place".

In Mr Gerrard's class, he and 9XC looked at the 'Power of Place' and the challenge of discussing how it is important to have a 'Home', and how the homeland of Israel and Palestine has different meanings to the Jewish and Muslim community who live there. They discussed the conflict with compassion and empathy., appreciating both sides of the argument whilst considering the impact at has on the innocent people who live there.

In Mr Caudwell's class, Year 7 took part in a competition to find all the countries of the World alphabetically and then their capital cities.  Mr Watts taught Y7 about the Geography of Y7 European football teams and cities, and Ms Webb used her lesson to raise awareness about "Under the Tree" schools in Sudan and give the pupils an idea of what its like to study in another country.

Mrs Lillie was the grand prize winner of the staff competition!
