UKSSN North West Launch 2023
13/03/2023

We are excited to launch the North West UK Schools Sustainability Network (UKSSN) North West Group next month at Accrington Hall.

In April last year the government published a Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy* for education outlining changes all sectors of education should take. If you are new on this journey or well on the way to being a sustainable school, we would like to offer a member or two of your staff the opportunity to join the UKSSN (UK Sustainable Schools Network). This will cover Lancashire and Cumbria, until geographical areas can establish themselves.

On Thursday 27th April we will launch UKSSN NW at Accrington Town Hall from 12noon for a light lunch kindly provided by local businesses, starting proceedings at 1pm. We understand how difficult it is to release staff, so we hope this afternoon session will be useful and productive. You are welcome to attend yourself, a sustainability or Eco Schools lead, governor, TA or site supervisor. We hope each school will be able to send a delegate.

Having been active in this area for over 16 years and host of local Eco Cluster Group as well as co-facilitators of the UKs largest children’s sustainability conference, Sustainability Learning Conference NW held annually at Blackburn Rovers’ Stadium at Ewood Park we hope we can bring together the wealth of experience and enthusiasm in Lancashire. The National Governance Association has issued guidance for all schools on how to incorporate Sustainability into Your School and Lancashire Association of School Governing Bodies had Sustainability on their March agenda.

We would like to invite any schools on the North West who would like to get involved. It will be a great way to share information, link to NGOs, ideas, grants, competitions, curriculum and more. Support your school and yourself on the sustainability journey

In collaboration with Hyndburn Borough Council, Hyndburn Leisure, Prospects Foundation, Cosy Homes in Lancashire and Sustainability Learning.

Confirmation of attendance should be sent to Amirah.Chati@hyndburnbc.gov.uk

Please specify names of delegates and if they will be requiring lunch. You can also use the telephone number 01254 380695. Parking advice and guest speakers will be confirmed before the event.

Yours faithfully,

Wendy Litherland
Director of Sustainability/Ass Assistant Headteacher
