St Christopher’s Year 10 Pupils Embark on Two-Week Work Experience Programme
06/03/2025

Year 10 pupils from St Christopher’s CE High School have taken a significant step towards their future careers by participating in a two-week work experience programme this February. The initiative, designed to provide hands-on exposure to various industries, has seen pupils spending time in a diverse range of workplaces, including businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and creative industries.

The work experience programme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world employment, giving students the opportunity to develop valuable work-ready skills, build confidence, and gain insight into potential career paths. Many local businesses and organisations have partnered with St Christopher’s to provide meaningful placements, ensuring pupils benefit from a practical and educational experience.

Miss Sutton, PSHE and Careers Lead, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating,

“Work experience is a vital component of our pupil’s education. It allows them to apply their skills in professional environments, and gain a better understanding of their future career choices. We are grateful to the many businesses and organisations that have supported our pupils during this programme.”

The programme has also been well-received by employers, who have praised the enthusiasm and dedication of the pupils. A spokesperson from Barrowford Surgery commented,

“Addie has been a pleasure to have with us for work experience. She has a lovely attitude and has shown willingness to do any tasks we have asked her to do. She has been a brilliant asset to our team.”

As the work experience programme concludes, pupils will reflect on their time in the workplace and share their experiences with peers and teachers. The initiative continues to be a key part of St Christopher’s commitment to preparing pupils for the future, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed for success in further education and employment.

'Pupils observed an improvement in all their work-ready skills after completing their work experience, most notably their communication and problem-solving. 84% enjoyed being out on placement and felt their placement was well worth taking.'

'Pupils agreed that their work experience placements improved their understanding about the world of work, about the kind of person employers are looking for and what skills they needed to improve on to get a job. It particularly helped pupils to see the importance of being willing to learn new things.'
