Important Notice: Summer 2020 Grades for GCSE, AS and A-level
09/04/2020

Dear Parent,

I write to draw your attention to two important documents released last Friday by Ofqual (the government body responsible for the quality and provision of public examinations and qualifications), which can be found at:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/gcses-as-and-a-level-awarding-summer-2020

Both documents are helpful in answering a number of questions (whilst raising some others!) and offering reassurance that the class of 2020 will be awarded grades fairly and that pupils and students will not be advantaged or indeed disadvantaged by the process.

We will of course do all that we can to ensure that our teacher assessed grades reflect a fair, considered, reasonable and informed judgment of the most likely grade a student would have achieved if they had sat their examinations this summer and completed any non-exam assessment. Teachers will follow Ofqual’s guidance, and that of the exam boards when this is released later this month, in order to reach a holistic professional judgement.

The earliest point at which schools will be able to submit grade data will be 29th May and results will be made available to pupils by the middle of August, although no final date has been agreed.

Yours sincerely,

R D Jones
Headmaster
