Clubs

We have a variety of clubs available to pupils during lunchtimes and after school.

Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions and guidelines relating to Covid, certain clubs may not be running at the moment.

Lunchtime Clubs

IT Club

The IT Department has been very active in offering extra curricular classes to pupils of all ages.
Regular classes take place at lunchtime and after school. Pupils may also access computers outside lesson time by negotiation with subject department staff and through the use of a booking system.

Year 7 Drama Club

Year 7 Drama club is a fun and interactive lunch time club in which pupils can rehearse and perform in a friendly and energetic environment. Pupils get a chance to explore stagecraft and scripted plays, enhance creativity as well as imagination, improve listening and speaking skills, and help to improve self-confidence while working with others.

Music Club

All pupils are encouraged to get involved in the many music ensembles that rehearse at lunchtimes.
These include:
• Year 7 Choir
• Senior Vocals
• Orchestra
• Wind Band
• Chamber Choir
• Brass Ensemble
• Jazz Band.

The ensembles cater for players of all ability ranges and expertise. Musicians contribute to assemblies, concerts, celebratory events, Cathedral Evensong and joint performances with other schools. The Senior Vocals compete in the international Eisteddfod in Llangollen and Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition.

The Jazz Band and Chamber Choir compete in the British National Festival of Music for Youth each year. The department also tours abroad each year with the Choirs and Jazz Band. To date, they have toured Northern Spain, Paris, Venice and Tuscany, Prague and Germany. Last year they gave four concerts in Budapest.

Maths Club

Maths Club is available one lunchtime per week for Years 7 and 8.Pupils are provided with opportunities to enter maths puzzle competitions. Pupils from Years 8, 9 and 11 are selected to enter national maths challenge competitions. A Year 7 team competes in the Lancashire Maths Challenge.

Walking Football

This is open to boys and girls in Years 7 & 8 who are not part of the school team. It does exactly what it says in the name: Football, done whilst walking! Please see Mr. Pountain for further details.

After School Clubs

Judo Club

Pupils from all year groups enjoy the hugely rewarding Olympic sport of judo every Friday after school in the Studio (2:15-3:45pm). In recent years, we have been awarded funding for top quality authentic judo mats and spare judo suits for pupils to borrow. Our coaching is at the highest level in the UK (Level 5). Judo is excellent for fitness, building self-confidence, discipline and self-defence. There is no charge to pupils from St. Christopher's. However, should pupils be interested, for a small fee, they are able to grade to qualify for the coloured belts as part of the British judo association's grading system. For further information, please see Mr. Pountain.

Connect

This is a very well attended after-school club for pupils from all year groups who want to go deeper in their Christian faith, or who are simply interested in what the Christian faith is all about. In this sense, it is an extension of the CU. However, Connect is also linked to Rossendale-based Christian Youth charity, 'Vision.' Connect is run by Mr. & Mrs. Pountain and meets every Thursday after school at 3;15-4:15pm. See Mr. Pountain for further details.
