Football's Newest Star
22nd May 2017
Abigail Fenton (10CA) has featured in our school news before, thanks to her wonderful football achievements and we're very pleased to be able to tell our school community about her most recent successes.
Late last year, Abi embarked on the gruelling England schoolgirls trials, competing against more than two hundred other talented players from around the country. In December, Abi was thrilled to learn that she had been selected as part of a squad of sixteen girls to represent England in the U15 girls' football team. On top of this, Abi was also selected to play for Lancashire U16s and has started playing her club football with Liverpool FC U16s, after a move from Blackburn Rovers. All in all, a fantastic year's work for this talented and hard-working young lady!
When recently asked about her successes, Abi said:
"It was a great honour, being able to represent my country on numerous occasions against a lot of very tough teams.
My favourite part of football has to be winning. Whether it's winning a game for your local team or winning a game for your country, lifting the cup because you've won the league or lifting the cup because you've won a national final, nothing beats it!
Hard work beats talent but talent never beats hard work."
We wish Abi the very best of luck in her football career, as she forges an exciting path through the sport. We're very proud that this model St Christopher's pupil is following her dreams, applying herself to an area in which she excels and showing off her talents on the international stage. We look forward to reporting on whatever happens next in Abi's blossoming sports career!
