We are delighted to announce that St. Christopher's has been shortlisted for the Best School Music Department Award at the 2018 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence!
The winner of each award will be announced on 22 February 2018 at a glitzy gala evening in the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly. This black-tie event will feature a champagne reception and performances from exciting talent in the music and education sectors, including a recital from a Yamaha scholar. The awards will be presented by a radio host from Classic FM.
This award nomination predominantly focuses on the tireless work of Miss Davies, our irreplaceable Director of Music and Performing Arts, who has for so many years offered the pupils of St Christopher's such a rich and rewarding musical education. Miss Davies and her team were nominated by Lucy Syzmonski, who is Head of Concert and Educational Tours for Club Europe Group Travel, with whom we have worked for a number of years.
We asked Lucy why she felt compelled to nominate St Christopher's and Miss Davies, and she told us:
"Out of the many music teachers I have worked with over more than 25 years, Miss Davies stands out as the most devoted to her music department. It's clear there is a wonderful rapport and mutual respect that's enjoyed between her and her students. I'll often talk to Miss Davies over the phone and she is always asking them their opinion on things we may be discussing to do with their music tour and they are always keen to respond - not like your average student! We've arranged St Christopher's music tours for over twenty years and what makes Miss Davies different is that she wants a new experience for her students every single time; even though this makes it really hard work for her! She is really mindful of making sure everyone can afford to go on tour and she works tirelessly to fundraise alongside the students - anything to ensure they get their annual trip, with many of the students not having ventured too far from their home environment before. St Christopher's music department is like her family. Miss Davies is warm, guiding, and enthusiastic; an incredibly talented musician and conductor, of which St. Christopher's CE High School must be immensely proud."
We look forward to the awards in February but win or lose, at St Christopher's we are all so proud of our wonderful music department and the tireless leader who drives it forward with incredible passion and enthusiasm.
