At the start of each year, we offer the pupils a chance to join 'St Christopher's School Radio'. This is an extra-curricular activity that can provide the pupils with an insight into the world of radio production and media. Our presenting team mainly consists of Year 8 pupils who, as a team, provide the Dining Room with music, news, notices and upcoming events at lunchtime. We also broadcast our daily assemblies within school.
'St Christopher's School Radio' was set up by two pupils, Richard Staines and PJ Hitchcock. The station has recently celebrated its second birthday and to mark the event, has been upgraded with state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment.
The School Radio team are also very privileged to be regularly invited to attend major events in the school's calendar and to provide entertainment such as Summer, Christmas and Eco Fayres. The Radio team also covered the British Gas 'Generation Green Dance Off' at Manchester Arndale, when the school won £100,000 for eco improvements. This was the team's first outside broadcast and as part of the event, they interviewed Jordan and Perri from Diversity, who were judges at the event, live on the radio.
We are also looking towards the future with great things on the horizon! We have just launched a sister station called HubLive, which broadcasts within the Sixth Form and has been formed because of popular demand. You can join the conversation online by tweeting HubLive using the handle @hubliveofficial.
The St Christopher's Radio Podcast:
In July 2015, we were given the opportunity to travel out to Manchester, to the Arndale Shopping Centre, to cover the schools participation in the British Gas 'Generation Green' final. In the final, judged by Diversity, St Christopher's won £100,000 worth of energy improvements to the school. St Christopher's Radio broadcast all of the action back to Accrington over our stream for students and staff to listen to whilst our team of dancers competed in the final of this nationwide competition. We were also given the opportunity to interview the judges of the competition, Jordan and Perri, from global dance sensation Diversity! Take a listen to all of the action below!
St Christopher's Radio also aims to provide the latest news, both internally, for students and staff involved in school life, and more national news. Here is a demo of one of our latest news bulletins, broadcast at 8am as part of 'St Christopher's Breakfast'.
Here at St Christopher's Radio, we do our part to cover internal school events, such as the Friends Of St Christopher's Christmas and Summer Fayres. Take a listen to some coverage of the Summer Fayre last year, where Emma Bamber, a member of the Presenting Team took the lead and covered this annual event. Listen to a round up of the days events below.
As part of our annual programming output, we aim to broadcast an act of collective worship each day. St Christopher's Director of Spirituality, Mr Pountain, has helped us to fulfill this ambition and we have created new means of broadcasting each daily assembly around school, for students and staff to listen to.
Recently we had the opportunity to interview Jordan and Perri of Diversity live from their dance studios. We've uploaded an extract of the interview carried out by one of our presenters, Alex.
Our Live Streams:
You can only listen to the school radio stations if you are directly connected to the school's network (i.e. on the premises).
